Exhibition

by on Mar.01, 2009, under Photography

An internet friend of mine, Mike Shaw, is trying to get a local art gallery to take up an exhibition of his photography work.  The collection is based on the cities of Chester, Manchester and Liverpool.  His photos show the “different aspects of the urban way of living, from the architecture, the vibrant colours and sometimes the underbelly too.”  Check his gallery out, it is quite spectacular.

I went to a debate this evening, but I happened to have a rather annoying headache so I wasn’t paying much attention and this is one of the shots I really liked afterward.

Project 365 – Week 2

by on Jan.12, 2009, under 365 Photo Project

The first full week of my photo project has passed!  So far it’s been a mix of things I’ve done, places i’ve been and last minute shots before midnight.  I’m still trying to keep the creativity up!

Week 1 Recap

by on Jan.06, 2009, under 365 Photo Project

Project 365 update…

The first week has been a little haphazard, switching between two cameras, but I have successfully captured a photo each day.  Here are the details of my photo uploads.  I’m uploading all of my photos to my Flickr account. I’ll be creating a new set for each month of the project as well as a single set containing all of the photos.  Sometime each week I’ll post a recap of the previous week, like this one.  Enjoy!

Light Painting

by on Oct.20, 2008, under Photography

Last Friday night, Kalyn, David, and I went out to have some fun light painting on the river flats.  David provided the flashlights, colors, the camera and took the photos.  All three of us provided some great inspiration, and good times were had by all.  This was by far one of the most interesting photography experiences I’ve had in a long while.  Here are some of the top shots from the night.  See the entire set here.

An Autumn Stroll

by on Oct.12, 2008, under Photography

I went for a nice Autumn bike ride on Saturday down along the Mississippi to take in the wonderful afternoon and capture some of the great colors nature had to offer.  It’s always a fantastic way to get your mind off things.

Chester, The Piranha

by on Oct.03, 2008, under Photography

My former roommate, now neighbor, and long time friend Ryan has a pet Piranha he was finally able to bring up to his apartment.  It’s name is Chester, and yes he is a real piranha.  Under no circumstances are appendages to be anywhere near the surface of the water, the glass top is removed for cleaning and feeding only.

Chester is a few years old, and still going strong.  His diet consists of mostly feeder fish from the pet store, but occasionally he gets something alittle bigger.  The used to have a seperate holding tank for the feeder fish until the discovered that Chester will only eat when he has too, piranhas are animals that will gorge themselves.  So when he’s gone for a few days at a time he can just dump a bunch of feeder fish in the tank and Chester will only pick them off as needed, he doesn’t go on an immedeate killing rampage.

I wanted to get photos of Chester eating, but apparently he doesn’t like people watching him, he usually eats at night or when no one is around the tank.  We tried though when Ryan placed this Goldfish in the tank.  At first the goldfish started schooling with Chester, following him around until Chester took a few instigatory jabs at him.  Then the goldfish when to hide and we didn’t see anything else happen.

Here are some photos that I got while waiting for something to happen.

One final note: Piranhas eat live fish! I don’t think the world will miss a few less feeder fish or goldfish.  Please don’t start protesting the use of fish to feed Chester, like Ryan’s sister did at one point with a “Save the Goldfish” sign.
